ATHERTON — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Atherton’s Town Council approved a scope and budget change for transportation consultant TJKM on October 21, extending a proposed Middlefield Road signal-timing study from five intersections to seven, from Ringwood Avenue to Fair Oaks Lane/Palmer Avenue.
What residents should know
The amended work also covers design of the Watkins Avenue walkway and fencing. The council directed the consultant not to perform a separate signal analysis at Fair Oaks Lane/Middlefield, but to show how potential changes at Watkins Avenue could affect that intersection.
The work involves analysis and engineering design, not an announcement that new traffic signals have already been installed or that the walkway is open. Decisions about physical changes require later steps, including finalized plans and any applicable construction authorization.
Pedestrian access and traffic circulation can affect school routes, neighborhood travel and road safety. Residents along Middlefield and Watkins should monitor future plans for specific intersection proposals and project-related notices.
The official City Manager’s Blog recounts the action within the October 21 consent agenda.
